I have had Twitter for a few years now and I actually learned new things in this lecture! I also laughed out loud when I saw the 'fail whale' in the Twouble with Twitter video. That video definitely highlighted many misconceptions about Twitter.
I have also had Twitter for a while, but managed to learn about some new gadgets that this site has to offer. Reading "The Art of the Tweet" gave some excellent examples of "Fail Whales" on Twitter; the what not to do's. In tweeting about why you are doing something, or why it is interesting, you will be a much more interesting profile to follow. Although I didn't agree with some of his examples, Rands In Response was a great guide to becoming a better Tweeter!
The Twouble with Twitter: SuperNews! and Twitter Search in Plain English videos shown this week were fun ways to learn how to properly use Twitter. The Twouble with Twitter: SuperNews! video comically portrayed how Twitter should not be used; pointlessly stating what you’re doing, for example “just parked my car.” However Twitter has many other uses, including personal communication and business networking. The Twitter Search in Plain English video will come in handy when searching for researchers / scientists in my field of study or in any field that I am interested in, as well as trending topics. It taught me how to find tweets sent by my classmates by searching the hashtag ALES204.
Twouble with Twitter really emphasized my preconceived negative connotations with the use of Twitter, with people aimlessly updating random things in their lives. However, with Twitter Search in Plain English, it made me realize that Twitter is definitely more than people talking about the kinds of food they're eating in the moment.
In this lecture, I learned about some new functions of Twitters that I never knew before. I really like the "hash-tag" function because it can help people to find the topic they are interested about easily on Twitter. However, I also found out some disadvantages about Twitter from the video "Twuoble with Twitters". Sometimes, people may tweet some useless things on Twitter, such as what they eat, what movie they watch and etc. These useless tweets,in my opinion, are web-trash to some extent.
